Get to Know My Music Taste

I love these damn things, I’ll admit it. I always feel a little bit ashamed to share them because I feel like I’m going “HEY!!! HEY CARE ABOUT ME AND MY OPINIONS” but I suppose that’s social media for you. I don’t like the long tweet-chain format, though, so I’ve decided to post the results here.

Disco Descent – Danny Baranowsky
If you’ve never played the fantastic Crypt of the NecroDancer, I highly recommend it for anyone who has ever enjoyed rhythm games, roguelikes, or both. It’s a fun dungeon crawl set to a beat, and the soundtrack is killer, as you can hear in Disco Descent.

Just Like Honey – The Jesus and Mary Chain
Just like any good goth kid of the late 90’s/early aughts, I was also something of a proto-hipster, which of course meant sniffing loudly at contemporary music (even though I enjoyed plenty of it, both openly and in secret) and placing music released literally the year I was born on a pedestal.

Southern Belle – Elliott Smith
Ah yes, here’s that contemporary music I was talking about. Oh, Elliott. 🙁 He was emo enough that I was not ashamed of admiring his music in front of others.

Deja Tu Envidia – Kunin, Vakero
I once added all of the Mariners’ walk up songs to this playlist and I regret nothing because they are, every one of them, bops. Do I speak Spanish? Well…I took three years of it in High School so I can order food and ask for directions, but beyond that I mainly have to work off context clues so…no, not really. So hopefully this isn’t a terribly offensive song. I can’t imagine it is because they play it at the ballpark? Jesus, this whole thing sounds ignorant. I’m sorry.

Alejandro – Lady Gaga
I believe the name of the playlist I had this on before it was merged into the Mega List was called “Unrepentant Pop Shit Don’t Judge Me OK” so that’s. Yeah. No regrets.

At The Chime Of A City Clock – Nick Drake
I believe I have Wes Anderson to thank for being introduced to Nick Drake. He fit in very well with moody, teenage, goth girl me.

Bridges – Destiny’s Child
Remember how I mentioned secretly loving some contemporary music? Yeah, here’s a great example of that. I remember being a bit ashamed of my enjoyment of Destiny’s Child because it didn’t fit my ~*~aesthetic~*~. That was silly. Teenage me was silly. There is no shame in loving Destiny’s Child. Is this particular track their best? No, but that’s a random playlist for you.

Loser – Beck
Every time I hear that opening slide guitar riff, I wonder if it’s Loser or The Alternative Polka. This time it was Loser, which is fine. This song makes me think of middle school, of staying up late listening to KOME (rest in peace) through Loveline.

The Breach – clipping.
OH MY GOD if you’ve never listened to Splendor & Misery, you need to do so. All the way through. In order. With headphones. That is all.

Sell Out – Reel Big Fish
More KOME-era music, aww. Husbando is also a ska fan, so I’ve grown my ska taste out a bit beyond the more mainstream stuff like this. Christ, I still have a bit of a hipster streak in me, don’t I?

Stryman – baaskaT
I added a random chunk of chillhop to the playlist, and I don’t really have any deeper reasoning beyond that for the inclusion of this track. I don’t know, it’s good stuff to just have on in the background while working on other things.

Beautiful Sinner – Nicki Minaj
Okay, look. It’s not good Nicki Minaj, but it’s Nicki Minaj. It’s a playlist on random! What do you want?

Trust In Me  – Etta James
Etta. James. Etta freakin’ James. She’s amazing. She is one of my vocal idols, along with Ella Fitzgerald and Koko Taylor, but I will never be that badass, so. A girl can dream, right?
